The First Philippine Polymer (FPP) Banknote series will be launched this afternoon at the Malacanan Palace. All BMAP member banks are invited to watch the livestream on https://www.facebook.com/BangkoSentralngPilipinas and share it on your social media accounts.
The FPP banknote series will circulate alongside the existing paper banknotes starting Q1 2025. The paper banknotes will remain in circulation.
The polymer series will showcase the country’s rich biodiversity and will feature different symbols of national pride reflecting numismatic dynamism and artistry, promoting appreciation of the Filipino identity.
The polymer banknotes are considered more sustainable with recent study analyzing the carbon footprint or life cycle of 1000-piso polymer and paper banknotes showed that polymer banknote’s carbon footprint is lower by 38.4 percent.
